Giving Day Priorities

Advancing coral resilience through science and innovation

At the Hawaiʻi Institute of Marine Biology, researchers are leading critical efforts to understand and protect coral reefs in a rapidly changing environment.

From studying how coral structure supports marine ecosystems to uncovering the biological mechanisms that enable some corals to withstand rising ocean temperatures, HIMB’s work is expanding what we know about reef resilience. Researchers are also using tools like environmental DNA, predictive modeling, and cryopreservation to better monitor, protect, and preserve reef systems for the future.

The HIMB Innovation Fund helps make this work possible by providing flexible funding for early-stage research, emerging technologies, and student training opportunities that are not always covered by traditional grants.

Support coral reef research and innovation this Giving Day.
