Every year, Detroit Mercy’s American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Concrete Canoe Team rolls up their sleeves, mixes up some serious science, and brings a concrete canoe to life. This isn’t just a quirky tradition—it’s an elite engineering challenge that blends creativity, teamwork, hydrodynamics, and a whole lot of determination. They don’t call it the “America’s Cup of Civil Engineering” for nothing!
This year, our crew is gearing up to paddle their handcrafted creation at the Eastern Great Lakes ASCE Student Symposium, hosted by Youngstown State University from April 9–10. There, they’ll go head-to-head with universities across the region in racing, design, presentation, and technical reporting.
But before we can hit the water, we need your help. Building a world-class concrete canoe doesn’t just take brilliant engineering—it takes materials, supplies, travel, and lodging. Your gift helps us:
