Imagine a summer where Detroit Mercy College of Engineering & Science undergraduates dive headfirst into real science — designing experiments, making discoveries, and building toward tomorrow. That’s exactly what happens in the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE), run by UDM’s College of Engineering & Science through the OURS+GO office.
Why This Matters
- Fuel for future scientists: This eight-week, part-time research program helps students bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world innovation.
- Mentor magic: Young researchers work closely with faculty mentors, gaining hands-on experience, guidance, and professional growth.
- Highlight their hard work: By the end of summer, each student produces a 3-minute video explaining their research — and then shares it again at UDM’s fall and winter symposiums.
What We’re Funding
- Stipends for students: Each SURE Fellow receives $2,000 — to cover summer living costs and let them focus on research.
- Support for mentors: Faculty mentors receive a $500 honorarium, helping them dedicate time and expertise to guiding students.
- Training & safety: We fund research training (lab safety, ethical conduct) so all projects are rigorous and responsible.
- Showcase events: Your support helps students share their discoveries at UDM’s Engineering & Science Research Symposium and Celebration of Scholarly Achievement.
