About

Support the Adia J. Palmer Memorial Scholarship Fund

Adia Palmer was a light in the Detroit Mercy community—a talented writer, gifted poet, and compassionate individual who touched the lives of everyone around her. A Senior Communication Studies major, Adia was known for her creativity, thoughtfulness, and memorable laugh. Whether she was volunteering for Titan Equity Nourish Network (TENN), working at the library, or writing for The Varsity News, Adia’s presence made a difference. Tragically, her life was cut short in March 2022, but her legacy lives on through the Adia J. Palmer Memorial Scholarship Fund.

This scholarship honors Adia’s passion for learning, community service, and campus involvement by providing financial support to Detroit Mercy students in need. Last year, the fund awarded three $500 scholarships to deserving students who, like Adia, are actively engaged in campus life and service.

Why Your Support Matters:

Students with financial need may receive tuition assistance but often struggle to cover the additional costs of books, fees, and other essentials. These barriers can add stress and hinder academic success. By contributing to the Adia J. Palmer Memorial Scholarship Fund, you’re helping students bridge these gaps, achieve their goals, and continue making meaningful contributions to the campus community.

Our goal for this year’s campaign is to sustain the scholarship for another 2–3 years, ensuring that Adia’s legacy continues to inspire and support others. Wiith your help, we can reach the $6,000 needed to keep this program alive and impactful.

Celebrate Adia’s Legacy:

Adia was a beacon of creativity, resilience, and kindness. Her professors recall her fierce intellect and vulnerability, her peers remember her warmth and humor, and her poetry still graces the walls of the Briggs building as a testament to her talent. Let’s honor her memory by supporting the students who follow in her footsteps.

Every gift, no matter the size, helps us continue this meaningful work. Together, we can make a difference for Detroit Mercy students while keeping Adia’s legacy alive.

Donate today and help us carry Adia’s light forward.
