About

At the University of Detroit Mercy (UDM), we believe in the power of education and community collaboration to create a more just and sustainable future. Our campaign, "Bridging Communities for Food Justice," aims to make a tangible, immediate impact in our local community and on our campus.

Our Purpose: The purpose of our campaign is clear: to raise funds that directly support TENN projects benefiting both our community and our students. These projects include:

  1. Produce Deliveries: We provide fresh, nutritious produce to the Princeton Street Block Club and the Theresa Maxis Senior Apartments, ensuring that vulnerable community members have access to healthy food.
  2. Sustainability Initiatives: On campus, we're spearheading the Plate to Planet food waste reduction program, which educates students about the importance of reducing food waste and taking practical steps to make our planet greener.
  3. The TENN Garden: Our garden serves as both a teaching tool and a source of fresh produce for the community. This green oasis enhances the ties between our students and the surrounding community by fostering a deeper understanding of sustainable agriculture.

The Challenge We Address: Our campaign addresses the pressing challenge of food justice in our community. In doing so, we aim to strengthen the bonds between the University of Detroit Mercy and our neighbors, living out UDM's mission of community engagement and social justice.

Our Next Steps: Your support is essential in allowing us to take these crucial steps:

  1. Purchasing Food: Funds raised will be used to purchase fresh, healthy food for our produce deliveries, ensuring that those in need don't go hungry.
  2. Education and Marketing: We will use the resources to inform and educate students about the Plate to Planet program, which, in turn, reduces food waste and promotes sustainable living.
  3. Garden Supplies: To maintain our TENN Garden and keep it thriving as both an educational and community resource, we need to invest in supplies and materials.

Join us in this mission to bridge communities, foster food justice, and strengthen the bonds between UDM and our local neighbors. Your contribution will make a tangible impact on the lives of community members and students, all while advancing our shared commitment to social justice and sustainability. Together, we can create positive change and ensure that no one in our community goes without the fresh food they deserve. Be a part of the solution—donate to our campaign today!
