Welcome to DU@Sundance, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at building the next generation of storytellers and industry leaders through access, mentorship, and real-world festival immersion. This new program will launch with a series of film festival classes that offer DU students a curated experience at the January 2027 Sundance Film Festival.
The DU@Sundance Experience will provide 40 DU students with a faculty-led experience at the festival's debut in Boulder, Colorado, marking the first time the film festival will be held outside Utah after 40+ years in Park City.
Students will receive tickets, meals, and transportation to a variety of screenings at the festival. Students will meet with Sundance programmers, Sundance filmmakers, and other media professionals as they learn about the history, culture, and impact of arts-based media events like Sundance.

This past weekend 3 teams of DU students competed in the First Annual DU Film & Theater 32-Hour Film Race!
Students were tasked with making a 2 -4 minute film that had to incorporate a given theme, random prop and specific line of dialogue.
The crew behind the short film– "DATEWRECKER" took home the top and received 4 tickets to the Sundance Film Festival in January 2027!
In reflecting on the Film Race, Professor Joe Brown remarked that, "It was great seeing students from all over campus come together for this competition! Students from math, engineering, theater, and film participated and came up with some wild storylines. In this day and age, I believe that creativity is an important skill, and I'm glad students were able to exercise their creativity through the film race."

On September 15th, DU Film Social brought MFJS students and faculty together to screen films, swap ideas, and learn more about DU's initiative to send student filmmakers to the Sundance Film Festival, this year in Boulder, CO.
Help build our momentum by supporting DU@Sundance today and provide our future film leaders with an immersive, lifelong career building experience.

This week, several MFJS students and staff were given the opportunity to attend a kick-off Sundance event in DU's own back yard! 'Mostly True Stories From the Sundance Film Festival' premiered at Newman Center for the Performing Arts on Tuesday, September 8th.
As part of the event, students attended a pre-program sit down with Eugene Hernandez, Director and Head of Public Programming for @sundanceorg, and John Nein, Senior Film Programmer, for a rare opportunity to learn directly from professionals shaping the film industry today. 🎥
Students also participated in an on-stage trivia session with film students from other schools in surrounding areas!
This January, 40 #UniversityofDenver film students hope to attend the Sundance Film Festival in Boulder, CO to participate in screenings, workshops, and networking with filmmakers and programmers. Your support can make that happen!

Professor Joe Brown welcomed students yesterday at DU's move in day. The excitement of a new year and new student opportunities were on the forefront of our minds!
