About

Research is the backbone of innovation and progress.

Unfortunately, academic research in higher education is facing unprecedented challenges. The recent termination of federal grants is having a profound impact on our faculty's ability to continue their groundbreaking work. Additionally, many new grants we have submitted for funding are not even being reviewed or considered. These ripple effects are felt deeply, threatening the progress and innovation that define the University of Denver and our ability to serve the public good.

We propose a solution to mitigate these impacts: what we call "bridge funding" for affected faculty members so that their research may continue as they seek permanent funding sources. For faculty affected by federal grant freezes or cuts, this initiative aims to provide up to 10% of their remaining award.

The sudden loss of funding not only disrupts ongoing projects but also jeopardizes future discoveries. By providing bridge funding, we can ensure that our faculty have the resources they need to continue their critical work without interruption.

By supporting Bridge Funding for Academic Research you can have an immediate impact on groundbreaking research initiatives that include:

  • Financial security for older adults
  • SPIRIT (School Psychology Inclusive Rural and Innovative Training), which recruits and trains school psychologists in Colorado’s rural communities
  • The Pardee Center's work in helping Ethiopia get back on its feet
  • Understanding the Chicano movement in Colorado, in partnership with History Colorado
  • The U.S. International Peace Institute, which posits that sports can create stability and peace
  • An NSF-funded initiative to increase the number of students from CO and WY majoring in STEM
  • NSF Early Career Grants, granted to the most elite faculty in America

I hope you will join us in this critical effort. Your support can make a significant difference in the future of research at DU. Together, we can bridge the gap and continue to drive groundbreaking discoveries.
