About

The Newman Center for the Performing Arts’ education programs provide critical free arts education programming on campus and in schools for thousands of K-12 students across the Denver metro region. Your contribution on May 14 during 1Day4DU underwrites participation for all K-12 programs, including student tickets for live performances at the Newman Center and in schools, artist classroom visits, scholarships to participate in the Music Creators summer camp, and additional performances of our Musical Explorers program.

As arts education funding declines in schools, the Newman Center's programming fills a widening gap in the curriculum. Our programs are designed with direct input and feedback from teachers to ensure the best outcomes for students. Our goal of raising $10,000 during 1DAY4DU means more students and teachers can participate in our programs without regard to financial constraints.

Last year, thanks to the generosity of supporters like you, we engaged a record-breaking 8,000+ students and teachers through our arts education programs.

Your generous 1DAY4DU contribution allows us to:

  • Provide free curriculum and performance experiences for 2nd graders in Denver Public Schools through the Musical Explorers program, produced in partnership with Carnegie Hall. This season, students learned about folk music from local singer-songwriter Martin Gilmore, delved into Japanese and Okinawan traditions with the Japanese Arts Network, and explored the African roots of Dominican music with Yassar Tejeda.
  • Increase access to masterclasses featuring Newman Center Presents artists like Limón Dance Company, 2024 GRAMMY-awarded supergroup säje, and the acclaimed Urban Bush Women by bringing these artists to students at South High School and the Colorado Conservatory of Dance
  • Offer scholarships to the Music Creators summer camp, where 12–16-year-olds learn how to produce and craft music of their own using industry-standard technology. Roughly 1/3 of the students receive a scholarship in some capacity.
  • Arrange free transportation to Newman Center performances for teachers and schools who otherwise would not be able to attend.

Your continued support is vital in ensuring every student has access to the transformative power of the arts. Together, we continue to make a difference in the lives of young learners, nurturing their creativity and providing inclusive experiences that expand their knowledge of the world around them.

Whether you can give a little or a lot on 1DAY4DU, every contribution counts and has the potential to change lives. Thank you!
