The Project
We are raising money to spend 9 weeks this summer working in Salyersville, Kentucky. We will be serving and building relationships with members of the community through a number of different programs we will be organizing and running. These include a Day Camp for the younger children, a Teen Center, and visiting a local nursing home. The UDSAP team will work with all ages in the community to improve their lives, and change our own. Besides helping the community, the UDSAP team will be learning to live life simply in a faith based community. We will be recycling and reusing things and working daily to improve our relationships with God through daily prayer and faith activities. UDSAP is one of the University’s oldest and most beloved programs, and we are so excited to continue the tradition this summer!
Who We Are
We are a group of UD students who choose to spend the summer in community with the residents of Salyersville, Kentucky. We dedicate ourselves to relational service to this community, and in turn this community leaves an impact on us. UDSAP is supported by UD Campus Ministry and we live through the Marianist values that define our faith. Since the beginning of UDSAP 58 years ago, our values of simplicity, community, prayer, faith, and service have built a strong bond with the community of Salyersville.
The Impact
UDSAP's impact is near to impossible to measure. Over the course of 58 years we have walked with the community of Salyersville as they have grown and changed. Along the way, Salyersville has also walked with UD students as their world views are challenged and transformed. Mutual relationships define UDSAP, and our continued hope and goal is to meet needs of the community while also building relationships that go beyond 9 weeks each summer.
What Your Gifts Will Do
Your gifts make this entire summer possible. From letting us live out a summer of service, to being able to play games with the kids and bingo at the nursing home, your donations make it happen! For the past 58 years, Dayton students have been forming relationships with the Salyersville community full of joy, laughs, understanding, and love.

It’s clear that there are so many things to love about UDSAP, and we only hope to spread it further! Please share this post with friends, family, and colleagues so that our story, the story of Salyersville, and the countless stories in the past 58 years of UDSAP can continue to grow.
Thanks for Your Support!
Your donation to UDSAP is greatly appreciated! It is impossible for our program and the other service programs of Campus Ministry to run on just our history; we need the help of our extended family and friends with prayerful and financial support. Your contributions will not only support our UDSAP community—they will help serve the Salyersville community by providing fiscal assistance for the day camp, teen center and nursing home.

Thank you all for your support of our 2023 Flyer Funder Campaign. It is truly an amazing experience to sit back and see the outpouring of support from alumni and our UDSAP community.
Unfortunately, due to low registration, UDSAP 2023 will not be happening in the traditional way this year. We have decided to take this summer to do some intentional listening and revisioning with the Salyersville and Magoffin County community, which we think will help us lean into our Marianist Charism and follow the signs of the times.
We are bringing the students who did apply to the program to the house for a week-long experience, along with several former UDSAPers. Those students will also have the opportunity to enact some leadership for next summer's UDSAP community. Additionally, we will still be hosting a Visitors' Weekend at the UDSAP House from June 30-July 2 for the Fourth of July Celebration in Salyersville. We hope that this will be a time for formers, alumni, and students to engage with the community and continue to build relationships with folks we have worked with for so many years. Lastly, there will be an opportunity for Former UDSAPers to come to the house for a "Formers Retreat" July 21-23. This will be an opportunity to help us revise what UDSAP can look like, engage in reflection around the UDSAP experience through the lens of faith, and gather stories about the program broadly.
In addition to all of this, we will also be spending some time in Salyersville meeting with families and community leaders and partners to hear about their vision for the program. It is our hope that this will be an opportunity to take intentional time to listen and adapt the program to meet the community’s needs in meaningful and sustainable ways.
The funds you all have donated are going towards all of these efforts, and ultimately will have an impact on what the program will look like in 2024. So, in many ways, your donations to this summer's experience is a unique one! We are hopeful that this summer will bring a lot of learning, growing, and adaptation that will ultimately help UDSAP in the long run. This is a program built on relationships, and this is truly a step toward a deeper relationship with the Salyersville community. Thank you again for your donation, and know of our deep gratitude for your support.
