Donations to the dean’s discretionary fund provide flexibility in meeting CMDI's greatest needs and taking advantage of new opportunities as they arise. This fund is crucial to CMDI's operations and has been used to fund scholarships, faculty research, new and expanding programs, facilities improvements, and more. The Dean’s Fund allows CMDI’s dean to move quickly and provide funding when needs arise. Examples of donor support to this fund include: helping host the annual Sports Media Summit, which featured speakers from FOXSports, Bleacher Report, the Colorado Avalanche and Denver Nuggets; enabling TEDxCU, a campus-wide student-driven program that delivers compelling talks to spread ideas and transform communities; and providing sponsorship fees for CMDI journalism graduates to participate in the esteemed national program, News21, at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communications at Arizona State University.
