Leviathan Jewish Journal

Leviathan Jewish Journal gives a distinctive voice to students, identities, and experiences at UC Santa Cruz.

As the oldest running Jewish student journal in the United States (54 years), we remain committed to free speech, intellectual discourse, creativity, and uplifting the voices of all students, regardless of background.

This year, we plan to publish two print editions and one short film, with one of the print editions being focused on the diasporic culinary experiences and recipes of our community at UCSC. This will give students the opportunity to gain experience with essential skills, such as writing, editing, media ethics, art, design, acting, video crew work, website design, and event planning. Those on the editorial team learn leadership skills as they grapple with difficult questions and challenge both themselves and others to do their best work.

Leviathan is unique in its existence as a space where students learn how to build community based on respect and create a space that is safe for all, even when there are significant disagreements.
