Over the past 40 years, the STEM Diversity Research Programs have transformed the lives of almost 2,000 students, leading to over 250 Ph.D. degrees in the STEM fields. We are passionate about fostering diversity in the sciences, empowering students by offering direct support, and cultivating their science identity through immersive STEM research training, professional development, and academic support. By advocating for students from historically marginalized and underserved backgrounds, we open doors for them to fulfill their educational and career aspirations.
One of the biggest deterrents to the retention of underrepresented students in STEM is financial inability, exacerbated by the high cost of living in Santa Cruz. Your generous contribution will expand the number of students who receive stipends for undergraduate research and support programming such as conference travel funds, academic tutoring, and community-building workshops. Of our Giving Day proceeds, 100 percent will go to students who are not receiving financial support through other means. This allows them to gain research experience through a paid internship and present their research at national conferences.
