In memory of Dr. John Pearse, UC Santa Cruz has established a memorial fund to continue John’s legacy and support of field courses in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. John was a beloved UCSC professor of ecology and evolutionary biology and a leading authority on marine invertebrates and intertidal ecology. His colleagues and students knew him best as a dedicated mentor who inspired students and launched careers in science.
The John Pearse Field Course Endowment is dedicated in perpetuity to supporting hands-on experiential learning for students in field courses like Kelp Forest Ecology, which he started. It is because of John that UCSC continues to be a leader in field research and education, and our students are inspired, skilled, and positioned for success after graduation.
