Help our Research Mentoring Internship program (RMI) raise funds to support diversity and excellence in STEM education (STEM = Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math)! The RMI program’s goal is to foster an interdisciplinary and diversified approach to both research and data collection and promote inclusive representation in STEM. Your donation will go directly toward supporting:
- Scholarships
- Professional Development
- Developing Research Skills
- Conference Attendance
This will have a direct impact on first-generation students from marginalized communities in STEM fields, with an emphasis on genetics and genomics.
What separates the RMI program from other diversity STEM initiatives is that the focus isn’t just on the "hard sciences," but it gives equal emphasis to the Social Justice aspects of the Ethical, Legal, and Social Implications (ELSI) of genomic research.
UC Santa Cruz will be hosting multiple campaign challenges during Giving Day, and if you donate during the following times you will be entered into a raffle:
- Slug Power: All day (randomly selecting donors)
- Mid-day Motivator: 12–2 p.m.
- Mad Dash: 6–8 p.m.
STEM mentorship programs are in serious jeopardy. After more than 20 years of training the next generation of researchers, the Genomics Institute Research Mentoring Internship has lost its federal funding. Your gift can provide life-changing and career-shaping opportunities for undergraduates, ensuring that we continue to raise up a talented pipeline of ethically focused genomics scientists.
While the challenges ahead are real, so is the impact we can make together!
Your contribution, no matter the size, directly supports students pursuing careers in genomics research. Even a $5 donation can help provide the resources, mentorship, and opportunities our students need to succeed.
If the RMI Program has made a difference in your life—or if you believe in investing in the next generation of scientists—now is the time to give back.
Every dollar counts. Every gift matters.
