Hello Fog Enthusiasts!
We are FogNet UCSC, a team of researchers and engineers pursuing scientific data on fog, both as an atmospheric phenomenon and as a potential water source. Led by Dr. Peter Weiss-Penzias, the team is providing new knowledge in the areas of meteorology, chemistry, biology, and sustainability.
In 2020, partially supported by funds raised on Giving Day, FogNet designed and installed multiple fog catchers at the UCSC Farm. These collectors thrived in this foggy environment, harvesting an average of one gallon of water per fog event and keeping a vegetable garden bed watered.
In 2024, we implemented the "Adopt a Garden Bed Fog Collector" project in Pacifica, CA. We were able to design, build, and install 12 garden-bed collectors in various locations in Pacifica, and we are now gathering data from our participants. This project inspired the creation of our new fog water sensor, specifically designed to measure fog drip.
Studying fog and fog patterns is important for becoming climate resilient. By donating, you will be directly supporting our team and helping us reach our research goals. Thank you for your help!
