In remembrance of Luke Madrigal '82 (Cahuilla), a dedicated advocate for tribal wellness and a driving force behind the revitalization of Cahuilla bird songs, the Luke Madrigal Scholarship for Native American Service was established following his passing in 2020. Luke's commitment extended to his role as chair of Chancellor Wilcox’s Native American advisory committee, and his name lives on through the Luke Madrigal Act Protecting Children Missing from Foster Care (AB 2180).
Inspired by his life and work, Luke Madrigal's family, friends, and colleagues created this endowed fund. Each year, it will support students who have demonstrated a significant commitment to serving Native American communities, both on and off reservations, through their activities on and off campus.
Please help us reach the minimum $25,000 goal to fully endow this scholarship and ensure Luke’s memory lives on in perpetuity for future generations of UCR students who serve Native American communities.
