About

Help us fund our annual SHPE National Convention where we gather more than 18 UCR-SHPE students and send them to this convention from across the country. With over 170 exhibitors, students are able to network with professionals and find sponsors for mentorship and job opportunities. Several UCR students received job offers from this event and/or as a result of networking from this event, as well as serving as a great career development opportunity for many of us first-generation students.

Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) is an interdisciplinary engineering organization focused on changing lives by empowering the Hispanic community. We pride ourselves in not only being able to improve ourselves in a professional, academic, and innovative way but in our ability to give back to the community through outreach. Overall, we have proved that we can prepare members for the real world, outside of their undergraduate career, whether it be in graduate school, the industry, or anything else.

SHPE @ UCR strives to serve professional and academic development events through resume workshops, career-building presentations, and guest speakers from the industry, graduate school, and more. We provide resources such as the MentorSHPE program, to not only help improve underclassmen's experience, but to solidify the bond and create a professional network among our members. In addition, we host our very own Noche de Ciencias, or 'Science Night', to provide an opportunity to educate parents of middle and high school students about college education.

Projects & Events:

  • Solar Boat - members build a fully operational solar boat from scratch to gain experience and skills. They compete in the annual Solar Regatta competition at the end of the academic year.
  • Power Brunch (November) and PDF (May) - both events offer opportunities to network with professionals, alumni, and companies.
  • Noche de Ciencias (fall) and Dia de Ciencias (spring) - community outreach events with activities for K-12 students to participate in and learn about different aspects of STEM.

Support SHPE today with a gift to:

  • BCOE Dean's Innovation Fund - SHPE Current Use - gifts of $25 or more, up to $1,000 will be matched, dollar for dollar and provide short-term, immediate support for SHPE projects and events this year.
