Gifts to Dean's Innovation Fund - Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) 25 contribute to...
The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) prioritizes three main goals: empowering members through conferences and professional workshops, inspiring the next generation by engaging with junior chapters and hosting STEM events, and fostering innovation by developing a solar-powered boat to compete in the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) competition. With your help, we can continue to achieve our goals and expand our impact to support even more students and communities!
The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) at UC Riverside is an interdisciplinary engineering organization focused on changing lives by empowering the Hispanic community. We pride ourselves in not only being able to improve ourselves in a professional, academic, and innovative way but in our ability to give back to the community through outreach. Overall, we prepare members for the real world, outside of their undergraduate career, whether it be in graduate school, the industry, or any endeavor they choose to pursue.
SHPE at UCR strives to serve professional and academic development events through: resume workshops, career-building presentations, guest speakers from the industry, graduate school, and more. We provide resources such as the MentorSHPE program, to not only help improve underclassmen's experience, but to solidify the bond and create a professional network among our members. In addition, we host our very own Noche de Ciencias, or 'Science Night', to provide an opportunity to educate parents of middle and high school students about college education.
Projects & Events:
- SHPE Conference: an annual national convention that brings together thousands of STEM students and professionals to network, strengthen skills through workshops, and compete for prize money. This year, UCR’s SHPE is sending more than ten members to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to take part in the largest gathering of Hispanics in STEM.
- Solar Boat: a student-led engineering initiative where members are committed to designing, building, and racing a fully functional, solar-powered boat. They work throughout the year to compete against more than ten other universities in the annual Solar Regatta competition held in Sacramento, California.
- Power Brunch: a formal networking event designed to create a welcoming environment for students to connect and learn from leading engineering professionals, innovative entrepreneurs, and top recruiters.
- Noche de Ciencias and Día de Ciencias: our community outreach events full of activities created to engage K-12 students in hands-on STEM activities. This event aims to inspire future engineers through interactive demonstrations, making STEM accessible and fun for the next generation of innovators.
