The Highlander Early Start Academy (HESA), UCR's Summer Bridge program, is a 7-week program for incoming 1st year students to begin taking classes, earning units, and connecting with peers, faculty and the campus. An early catalyst for academic success, HESA prepares students with academic development, resource access, and a sense of belonging - setting the foundation for long-term success.
Your gift provides access and opportunity for these diverse students - many of whom are the first in their families to attend college - to start at UCR on the right foot! HESA students return to UCR for their 2nd year at a higher rate than 1st year students overall.
HESA Scholars who maintain a 2.5 GPA and other requirements are eligible for a $1,000 scholarship during their first year. Over the last 7 years, HESA participants that earned the program scholarship have had higher 1st to 2nd year retention rates (avg 92.7%) compared to first-year students that did not participate in HESA (avg 88.5%).
Give today and help incoming 1st year students thrive at UCR!
