UCR defines first-generation students as those whose parent or guardian has not earned a four-year college degree in the United States.
As of Fall 2022, 51% of UCR undergraduates are first-generation, compared to the national average of 34%. Approximately 46% of incoming first-year students and 60% of transfer students are first-generation.
UCR’s First Generation Initiative helps students build community while supporting their social, academic, and professional development. Through workshops, events, and collaborations with campus partners, the program creates spaces where first-gen students can connect, grow, and succeed.
Your Give Day gift helps fund quarterly programs, workshops, and community events that strengthen community and support the success and retention of first-generation students at UCR.
