UCR's new Center for Experimental Cosmology & Instrumentation in the Department of Physics & Astronomy, led by 2017 Nobel Laureate and 2023 National Medal of Science recipient Professor Barry Barish, aims to develop new technology to probe the origin, composition, and evolution of the Universe, such as new sensors for measuring elusive signals from gravitational waves, dark matter, neutrinos, and microwave light from the early Universe. At CECI, we push at the boundaries of quantum and semiconductor technology in pursuit of answers to the universe's deepest mysteries.
Donations to this fund will support our quarterly Frontiers of Cosmology public lecture series, provide research opportunities for UCR students, build world-class research infrastructure, and grow a vibrant research community with unparalleled opportunities for UCR students to get hands-on experience with cutting-edge technology while making UCR a world leader in cosmology experiments.
CECI also supports the Summer Physics Teachers Academy hosted by the Department of Physics & Astronomy, and donations will provide more training opportunities for high school and community college physics teachers and enrich research experiences for community college and high school students who engage in research within CECI.
