Many marginalized students are excluded from research opportunities because they simultaneously balance their academic workload while supporting themselves financially. In 2020, the Department of Entomology at UC Riverside started a grassroots effort to create a permanently endowed scholarship for marginalized students.
The Advancing Inclusivity in Entomology Endowed Scholarship Fund supports an on-going scholarship for entomology undergraduate students who experience social, cultural, and financial barriers and allow them to conduct research in a lab without worrying about financial commitments. This fund helps students overcome the systemic barriers they face and facilitate their ability to participate and excel in entomology and scientific research at UCR.
Our goal is to increase the endowment to a level such that multiple students can be supported to conduct research within entomology labs at UCR. Donations will help us build our capacity to fund these scholarships in perpetuity. Help us expand this endowment to support multiple undergrads.
