Fourteen students who have recently graduated from Sherman Indian High School in Riverside and have returned to their reservations across the U.S. are featured in a prominent photography exhibition at UCR ARTS, Off Reservation: Sofia Valiente and the Photo Students of Sherman Indian High School. Sherman is a second home to high school students from reservations all over the United States, many of whom had parents and grandparents who attended as well. The exhibition is the result of a collaborative project between UCR MFA Alumna and Gluck Fellow, Sofia Valiente, and students at Sherman Indian High School from 2022-2024. The photographs depict the everyday lives of these high school students, at the school and on their reservations, alongside student responses and reflections.
Please help us raise funds to support the participation of these students in programs and celebratory events this summer. Make a gift to UCR ARTS today!
