Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE)
The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) at UC Merced is more than a student organization, it is a community built on mentorship, support, and shared growth. SHPE creates a space where students feel seen, encouraged, and empowered as they navigate the challenges of pursuing engineering degrees, often as first-generation college students.
Rooted in the idea of familia, SHPE brings students together not only to develop technical and professional skills, but to uplift one another through mentorship, guidance, and collective progress. Members grow academically and professionally while also building lasting relationships grounded in support and shared experience.
Through leadership opportunities, technical initiatives, and mentorship, SHPE fosters an environment where students help open doors for one another and work toward becoming engineers who uplift their communities as well as themselves.
Fundraising Goal
SHPE is raising funds to support hands-on learning opportunities that help members strengthen their technical and professional skills. Through student-led workshops and collaborative learning sessions organized by the Project Chair, members can apply classroom knowledge in a supportive and practical environment. Funds will help provide the materials and resources needed to run these sessions, allowing students to gain real-world experience while building confidence and technical expertise alongside their peers.
