Pilipinx American Association (PAA)
Pilipinx American Alliance (PAA) was established during UC Merced’s inaugural opening in 2005 to promote awareness of Pilipinx/Filipinx/Filipinx-American culture and heritage. The organization works to address past and current issues affecting the Pilipinx community while encouraging unity on campus through the celebration of cultural diversity. PAA also promotes academic achievement and provides opportunities for professional, social, and cultural development. Through its programs and initiatives, the organization strives to build a strong network of support while engaging with and serving the broader Pilipinx/Filipinx/Filipinx-American community.
Fundraising Goal
Pilipinx American Alliance (PAA) is raising funds to celebrate and promote Filipino culture at UC Merced through its signature events, Barrio Fiesta and Pilipino Cultural Night. These events highlight Filipino traditions through music, dance, storytelling, and collaboration with other cultural student organizations, creating opportunities for the campus community to engage with and learn about Filipino culture.
Barrio Fiesta, held annually in the fall, showcases cultural performances from PAA and other student organizations while bringing students together to celebrate cultural diversity. In the spring, Pilipino Cultural Night features a student-written play that explores themes within Filipino culture and the experiences of immigrant families. Funds raised will help support the production, programming, and overall quality of these cultural events.
