The Pilipinx American Alliance (PAA) was established during the inaugural opening of UC Merced in 2005. In an ongoing attempt to serve and interact with the Pilipin@/Filipin@/Filipin@-American community, the Pilipinx American Alliance (PAA) stands to promote a network of social support through the encouragement of political struggle, academic excellence, and cultural awareness while celebrating cultural diversity.
PAA hosts several cultural events throughout the year, including Barrio Fiesta, one of UC Merced’s largest and most prominent events hosted by Registered, Clubs & Organizations; as well as Pilipino Cultural Night (PCN), which enables them to share and celebrate their Pilipinx hxstry with the local community. Funds raised through this project will help PAA purchase new cultural costumes, materials, props, and bamboo sticks that are used for tinikling (the national dance for the Philippines) for future cultural events held at UC Merced.
