Fairooz Shafin was a talented young student just beginning to unlock her potential as a computer scientist and citizen of the world. Her sudden passing in 2023 resonated deeply in the community and on campus. Fairooz is deeply missed and mourned.
In 2024, Fairooz’s friends and colleagues launched the Fairooz Shafin Memorial Fund as a way of celebrating her life any carrying on her legacy. The fund attracted significant attention on Giving Day as supporters donated from around the world in Fairooz’s honour. As a result, the Department of Computer Science was able to establish a scholarship for trailblazing women like Fairooz.
For Giving Day 2025, we’re working to take the fund one step further. By making it an endowed fund, we’ll be able to provide annual support to a promising Computer Science each year in perpetuity.
Your donation will help endow this fund, creating a lasting legacy for Fairooz and those who follow in her footsteps.
If by April 30, 2026, the total received from all donors does not reach $25,000 but exceeds $10,000, the funds will be utilized to fund the award on an annual basis until the funds are completely depleted. If the total amount received from all donors does not reach the endowment goal and cannot support the annual award, the contributions will be used to support the Computer Science Alumni Chapter Undergraduate Scholarship. Please note the University shall not be required to return any portion of the gifts already paid.
