Earth, Energy, and Environment Field Schools

Ask any geoscience graduate what the highlight of their degree was and they’d probably say “field school!” without hesitation. Over the years, hundreds of UCalgary Earth, Energy, and Environment students have shared how their field school experiences positively impacted their time at UCalgary and their career readiness when they graduated.

Field schools are intensive, multi-week experiences in diverse landscapes. They help future geoscientists develop observational, data collection, analytical, and interpretation skills, plus build an understanding of how our Earth works on a fundamental level. Field experiences provide a unique and integrated "learn-how-to-learn" experience that can’t be duplicated in the classroom or laboratory.

Despite the obvious benefits field schools afford our students, rising costs are making it harder for some students to access them. This Giving Day, we are asking for your support to ensure students can benefit from the immersive, practical, and diverse experiences of field schools!

Your gift to the Faculty of Science will make field schools accessible to more students and expand our current field school offerings – ensuring hands-on, real-world learning for the next generation of geoscience leaders!
