Developing Arkansas' Future Professionals Beyond the Classroom

I³R will develop and host a workshop for current students (both University of Arkansas and nearby community colleges) to develop so-called “soft skills” to prepare them for entering the workforce. These skills include negotiation, interpersonal relationship building, workplace etiquette, appropriate social media use for professionals, and overall professionalism and general career-readiness practices.

This project empowers Arkansas students with the essential “human skills” that set great employees apart—communication, teamwork, leadership, and professionalism. Many students enter the workforce with strong technical knowledge but limited preparation for the interpersonal demands of today’s jobs. This one-day, hands-on workshop will bring together University of Arkansas and community college students for interactive sessions led by industry and campus experts, helping them build confidence, adaptability, and career readiness. By strengthening students’ professional and personal development, the project directly supports the university’s pillars of Student Success, Workforce Development, and Community Engagement. Its impact will extend beyond campus—providing local employers with better-prepared hires and advancing Arkansas’s statewide workforce goals.
