About

Open Global Doors with the CEA Study Abroad Scholarship

The University of Arkansas Center for Educational Access (CEA) and Office of Study Abroad has partnered with the University of Florida to open this study abroad opportunity to U of A students. This program is hosted by the University of Florida Disability Resource Center (DRC) and Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering (HWCOE) and was designed with accessibility at its foundation. Students with disabilities who have participated in the past have expressed the program was clearly designed to proactively address their accessibility concerns. This Summer Study Abroad program is designed for students from all fields of study to learn about disability access in London and the role of technology in facilitating access for all citizens. The goals of the program are to give students the opportunity to explore how technological innovations increase access for people living with disabilities, as well as the use of policy and advocacy for social change.

According to the Postsecondary National Policy Institute more than half of post-secondary students who report having a disability receive some form of financial aid. Students with disabilities often face unique challenges when pursuing study abroad opportunities — including both disability-related barriers and financial constraints. In addition to ensuring disability-related barriers do not hinder a student’s dream to study abroad, this project also aims to ensure financial need does not stand in anyone’s way. Our goal is to ensure that every student with a disability who wishes to participate in this study abroad program has the opportunity to do so. With that in mind, we hope establish a $1,000 scholarship to support students with disabilities in covering the costs of this exciting new study abroad program.
