Equal Access Birmingham (EAB) is a student-run clinic that brings compassionate, high‑quality care to uninsured and underserved neighbors across Birmingham. Housed within the UAB Heersink School of Medicine’s Department of Medical Education, the clinic gives medical students meaningful, hands-on experience while ensuring community members have a place to turn when care feels out of reach.
EAB’s volunteers support a wide range of clinics, including general medical care, mental health services, reproductive health, dermatology, and a growing street medicine program that brings care directly to people experiencing homelessness. Students work side by side with attending and resident physicians, gaining practical skills while helping patients manage chronic conditions, access needed medications, and rebuild trust in healthcare.
Community support is critical to the mission of EAB. Donations can help cover the cost of medications, basic supplies, diagnostic tools, and on-site lab work. They also strengthen preventive care efforts and keep clinic operations running smoothly so that patients can continue receiving reliable, respectful care regardless of insurance status or financial barriers.
A gift to EAB helps support health outcomes for Birmingham residents and the training of future physicians who understand the value of service, empathy, and equitable access to care.
