Since 2022, the Blazer Made initiative has been equipping UAB’s student-athletes with the life skills they need to thrive on and off the field. Thoughtfully designed to progress year-by-year with each student-athlete, Blazer Made challenges participants to grow as leaders, to serve others, and achieve their full potential. Blazer Made focuses on five key areas: financial literacy, mental health and wellness, career development, leadership and service.
Philanthropic donors and UAB Giving Days support would help expand these resources for current student-athletes’ success while making UAB a more attractive destination for potential recruits.
Program leaders hope to add the following components to the program in the near future:
- Blazers Abroad: This service-learning opportunity would enable UAB student-athletes to immerse themselves in new cultures while making a positive difference in communities around the globe.
- Leadership Academy: Over the course of 8-10 weeks, this leadership program would challenge participants to work together to solve real-world problems and develop their leadership skills.
- Blazer Made Internships: These internships would empower senior student-athletes to gain invaluable supervisory experience while preparing the next generation of Blazer Made participants for success.
