Since 2016, Vocabby’s World has been making learning fun for kids across Birmingham, strengthening their vocabularies through educational adventures in art and science. Primarily focused in Woodlawn and its surrounding neighborhoods, Vocabby’s World has served nearly 17,000 children over the past decade.
Vocabby’s workshops are designed to entertain as well as educate, but they’re backed by science. Early childhood vocabulary development has been proven to correlate with better outcomes in school, including improved reading comprehension, increased facility at learning new words and concepts, and higher GPA and test scores. Strengthening a toddler or preschooler’s vocabulary can give them a significant advantage in school, while delays in early childhood language skills—typically exacerbated by environmental factors—can have negative impacts well into adulthood.
With the help of campus and community partners, Vocabby has been able to grow significantly over the past three years, including an expansion into Titusville in 2024-2025. Across last year, Vocabby reached more than 1,344 children throughout the greater Birmingham area.
With your support, we can not only sustain this vital community programming, but also expand it to serve even more neighborhoods in the future, positioning countless kids for success. Please consider a gift today to make a lasting investment in Birmingham’s future.
