The UAB AmeriCorps VISTA program is a year-long service and leadership initiative that empowers volunteers to develop sustainable solutions for addressing pressing community needs in the Birmingham Metro area and rural communities. Since 2014, AmeriCorps Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) has connected talented and passionate individuals, including many Blazers, to create and enhance anti-poverty initiatives throughout Alabama.
Over time, VISTAs have grown and expanded their efforts to address community disparities, improve education, ensure food security, enhance public health, and promote healthy futures for all Alabamians. In 2022, 90 VISTAs dedicated their time to over fifteen sites, serving 12 counties in Alabama.
At its core, UAB AmeriCorps focuses on bringing people together to create lasting changes in Alabama’s underserved communities. Our primary focus areas include public health, education, and economic initiatives aimed at eliminating poverty throughout the state.
