Gifts to Emergency Grants contribute to...
The Student Affairs Student Emergency Grants are a lifeline to students experiencing an emergency that could threaten their education. Emergencies that may be manageable for most people can be devastating to a college student and could derail their academic journey entirely. With the support of generous donors, we can extend a lifeline to students to help them overcome the obstacle. Student Affairs always seeks to foster a sense of belonging, promote health and well-being, and see students through to their graduation and career. That means finding and meeting student needs where they are.
Donate today so that this program can continue to be a lifeline for students in need. With your support we will continue to see more students succeed academically and reach graduation.
Our students, the Division of Student Affairs, and the University deeply appreciate your support of the UAB Student Affairs Student Emergency Grants.
Anonymous quotes from UAB students that received Emergency Grants:
"In the middle of the night on December 9th, 2023, a tornado tore through Homewood, Alabama. That night I remember waking up to a loud noise and the feeling of small bits of glass and wood peppering my face. ... Thankfully nobody was hurt, but I never had many possessions to begin with and due to water damage and fiberglass I lost a majority of my things. I was wearing outfits for longer periods due to having considerably fewer clothes, along with that it was like beginning my freshman year again buying new binders, papers, pencils, and other school supplies."
"After explaining my situation and receiving guidance from UAB's emergency grant/support I already felt more confident. UAB’s emergency grant/support also helped me financially to recover many of the important things I had lost like clothing and school supplies. Overall, I felt like I was able to continue to apply myself to my education without the stress of trying to work more jobs to recover financially."
