Habitat House Build - UAB Benevolent Fund

The UAB Benevolent Fund is raising money to sponsor the annual Habitat for Humanity House Build which costs $50,000. Approximately 400 UAB students, faculty and staff will ban together to volunteer 2,000 hours to build a home from the ground up. Working alongside the homeowners, true service learning takes place for both students and UAB employees. The cost of materials for the roof which secures the home from the elements costs $5,000. We are not only building a house, we are building community! Below is an example of the information we can provide to potential donors.

$5                           2x4s represent stability – a promise that there is somewhere safe for a family to dwell. $5 can buy two 2x4s.

$25                         Nails represent adhesiveness – a place to gather keeps a family intact. $25 can buy a bucket of nails. $500 can buy enough nails for the entire house.

$50                         Lights represent hospitality – a place where a hosting family can bless and welcome their community. $50 can purchase a front door light.

$75                         Shingles represent protection – the outer shell of the home that guards the memories of loved ones inside. $75 can purchase one square of shingles.

$100                       Windows represent charm – enabling those inside to sit and comfortably view God’s beauty and blessings. $100 can purchase a window.

$250                       Front Doors represent the entryway to a place of joy – the spot that will be graced for years to come by a family that can finally say “We are home sweet home”. $250 can purchase a front door.

$750                       Sod represents amusement – welcoming little hands and toes that long to play within the borders of grass that frame a home.

$1,000                   Cabinets represent the gift of order – a daily reminder that you have a place for everything and everything has its place.

$2,500                   Sheetrock represents memories – proudly sharing years of happiness through the pictures hung upon the walls.

$5,000                   Insulated Roof represents a haven from the extremities – protecting the structure and those inside from the harshness of the winter cold and summer heat.

$10,000                 Plot of land represents a place to build – a promise of good things to come as families grow together in their home.

$50,000                 Residence represents the priceless gift of dignity – a place to call one’s own. $50,000 can sponsor an entire home from start to finish
