About

Hi, American Indian Center Friends!

Each November, the American Indian Center (AIC) hosts the Give2AIC campaign to increase support for our work and to celebrate American Indian Heritage Month with our friends, community members, and champions. Through this campaign, your gifts help make the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill a leading public university for American Indian scholars and scholarship.

This American Indian Heritage Month, we hope to raise $20,000—to celebrate the Center’s 20th anniversary and to reach $1 million in the AIC’s endowment.

By investing in the American Indian Center Program Endowment (075438) your gift supports the longevity of the Center, creates permanency for our community, and makes a lasting impact on the university. Let’s build on a Legacy of Tradition together!

This month, we celebrate the many ways that AIC plants seeds, nurtures growth, and provides for future generations.

AIC Planting Seeds

Since 2006, AIC has built programming and developed resources to support growth within both the Carolina and broader North Carolina communities. Initiatives such as Healthy Native North Carolinians, Elder in Residence, and the American Indian Cultural Garden plant seeds of opportunity— promoting better health outcomes, expanding knowledge beyond the classroom, and deepening understanding of native plants and the Indigenous Peoples who have nourished this place for thousands of years.

AIC Nurturing Growth

As an Academic and Community Engagement center, the AIC fosters and nurtures growth among students, emerging and senior leaders, and changemakers. Through the University Network of Native Leaders (UNNL), Native Leadership Institute (NLI), and additional professional development resources, we aim to provide meaningful opportunities for impactful growth. The leadership and training education made available by UNNL and NLI is designed to effectuate change, nurture leadership potential, and supercharge the Carolina network. In addition, AIC equips students with the knowledge and experience needed to explore and prepare for careers in service to tribal communities.

AIC Providing for Future Generations

AIC seeks to continue to expand UNC’s footprint to offer Native spaces for future generations to explore. Whether through physical spaces or academic explorations, AIC provides opportunities to understand the Native UNC legacy of this place. The Faith Danielle Hedgepeth Scholarship is rooted in the legacy of who she was and provides students with support during their time at Carolina while keeping her name alive and sharing her values with the broader community. Carolina Horizons offers high school students an opportunity to see themselves on campus, gain access to resources and perspectives that help them thrive in college, and transition from high school to higher education.

Join us today! Make your gift, share the campaign with your network, and help us reach our goal. Every contribution—big or small—moves us closer to a future that builds our legacy of tradition and impacts our communities.
