Vernon Whaley Scholarship Fund

This scholarship is awarded to individuals who clearly articulate a calling into local church ministry; demonstrate an understanding of servant leadership principles and values; are pursuing a degree in music and worship at Trevecca Nazarene University; and who are intent on serving vocationally as a local church worship pastor. Additionally, recipients of this scholarship must profess salvation and faith in Jesus Christ, be active members of a local Christian congregation, demonstrate exceptional skill in music and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

The fund has been established in honor of Dr. Vernon Whaley, whose contribution to Christian worship ministry around the world has been deeply and broadly impactful. His experience as a local church worship pastor; leader and innovator in Christian academia; published musical composer/arranger/orchestrator; music publisher; published author; highly acclaimed speaker and Bible teacher; philanthropist; and Christian mentor has carved a wide swath of transformational influence across more than 50 years of passionate and selfless service. His faith in Jesus Christ, godly character, biblical values and exemplary Christian discipleship have provided a wonderful model for the criteria of this award.

Upon the occasion of Dr. Whaley’s retirement from Trevecca in 2026, it is our joy to establish this enduring scholarship in his name for the purpose of enriching and training countless future generations of servant-minded worship leaders.
