As you heard Hamlin’s new Student Body President, Audrey Spaly ‘21 announce on Opening Day, our theme for the 2020-21 school year is “I Am Changing.” Indeed, 2020 has been a year of great change and reflection - as individuals, as families, and as a nation. Never has our mission of educating girls to meet the challenges of their time felt more critical, and we want to help equip our girls and our community with the tools they need to change themselves and the world for the better.
As a school community with people from all walks of life, we differ widely and beautifully in terms of our age, religion, race, and political affiliations -- but we can all agree that bias and discrimination erode unity and limit our vast human potential. So this week, we invite you to raise your paddle in support of anti-bias education at Hamlin. This will include opportunities such as classroom learning, workshops, and events for students, parents, and families to recognize, understand, and confront bias, and to use our voices to have courageous conversations and stand up for justice. It will also allow faculty and staff to participate in professional development and training related to anti-bias, diversity, equity, and inclusion in addition to their usual professional development allowance.
This Friday’s Fall Fundraiser is called “Hamlin Family Reunion,” and part of that means celebrating EVERYONE in our Hamlin Family and in the human family! Activism and social justice have long been an important part of our school and our curriculum, and we look forward to deepening our commitment to this work, as well as strengthening our connections as a community, in 2020-21 and beyond.

If you would prefer to contribute offline, please send an email to wheeler@hamlin.org and we will be sure to count your pledge towards the Raise the Paddle.
Thank you for raising your virtual paddles high in support of Hamlin and our girls!
