At John Marshall Elementary School, a historic institution in Philadelphia's Frankford neighborhood, we believe every child deserves a safe, inspiring space to play, grow, and thrive. Today, we're launching "The Marshall Playground For All!" campaign to create a vibrant outdoor playground and fill a critical need that will profoundly impact our students' physical, social, and emotional well-being!

Our Students, Our Community: A Story of Resilience

Our school serves approximately 250 students, a diverse population facing significant challenges. With 15% of our students on the Autism spectrum and another 10% receiving services through IEPs, we are deeply committed to providing an inclusive and supportive environment for all learners. Situated in the Frankford section of Philadelphia, our students encounter daily realities of poverty, homelessness, and other socioeconomic hardships. Despite these obstacles, our dedicated faculty works tirelessly to nurture our students' potential, recognizing that they are the future of our community.

Addressing Critical Needs: Why a Playground Matters

Currently, John Marshall Elementary lacks a dedicated gymnasium. Our multipurpose room serves as both a lunchroom and an auditorium, limiting opportunities for physical activity. Aside from a single basketball hoop, we have no playground equipment. This playground will fill a vital gap, offering a space where our students can:

• Promote Physical Health: Encourage active lifestyles, helping children stay fit and healthy.
• Foster Social Development: Provide a safe space for teamwork, communication, and lasting friendships.
• Enhance Mental Well-being: Reduce stress and improve focus, setting students up for success in the classroom.
• Provide Inclusive Play: Create an accessible and engaging environment for our neurodivergent students and those with special needs.

Progress to Building a Brighter Future

We've already made significant strides toward making this dream a reality. Our Principal was recently named Principal of the Year, bringing a $20,000 stipend towards our playground. We also have a promise of a matching grant of $25,000 from a dedicated donor and are actively pursuing funding from the Eagles Autism Foundation, where we have a promising opportunity! The work has been started and all we need now is your support!

Our Goal and Our Ask: Invest in "The Marshall Playground For All!"

We are seeking funding to construct a playground that gives our children an opportunity to play safely and encourages physical fitness. To complete this transformative project, we aim to raise a total of $192,000, which will cover Phase 2 of our 4 phase construction timeline!
