Building Global Leaders: Dobbins Students Explore Sustainability in Germany & Switzerland

Imagine being 16 years old and standing in the shadow of the Swiss Alps, learning how glaciers reveal the urgent story of climate change. Picture exploring Berlin’s cutting-edge innovation hubs, where technology, urban farming, and renewable en

ergy come together to create the blueprint for the cities of tomorrow.

This is exactly the once‑in‑a‑lifetime opportunity that 15 hardworking students from Murrell Dobbins CTE High School will have this spring—but only if we come together to support them.

Our students have signed up for EF’s Sustainable Living in Germany & Switzerland Program, a world-class educational experience designed to teach young people how global communities tackle today’s biggest environmental and business challenges.

Over the course of 10 days, Dobbins students will:

• Learn directly from experts in sustainability, science, and international business.
• Visit renewable energy centers, eco-friendly communities, and urban farms, including Freiburg—one of the “greenest” cities in the world.
• Participate in hands-on projects that explore renewable technology, sustainable agriculture, and city planning.
• Experience global business culture firsthand, contrasting European sustainability efforts with those here in Philadelphia.
• Develop leadership, career, and academic skills that prepare them to innovate and problem-solve in their lives and future careers.

For many Dobbins students, this will be their very first time traveling outside of Philadelphia—or even the United States. This journey will expand their vision of what’s possible and equip them with the skills, confidence, and global perspective to return home as future scientists, innovators, entrepreneurs, and community leaders.

But here’s the challenge: We need to raise $77,000 to ensure all 15 students can participate. This covers everything they need—flights, lodging, meals, instruction, entrance fees, and program guidance. Every dollar raised ensures that no student is left behind simply because of financial barriers.
