At Guion S. Bluford Elementary School in Philadelphia, we believe every child deserves a reason to show up and something worth showing up for.
We're raising $32,000 to launch a transformational new chapter at Bluford, built around two powerful ideas: making school more engaging, and celebrating the students who commit to being there.
WHAT WE'RE BUILDING: AN ESPORTS PROGRAM
For students in grades 3–8, we're launching a school-wide Esports program that will meet 2 days a week and give students a structured, competitive, and collaborative environment to grow. This isn't just gaming — it's a gateway to STEM careers, digital literacy, teamwork, and problem-solving.
Your donation will fund:
- Licensed Esports curriculum and professional development for our teachers
- Nintendo Switch consoles, controllers, and gamepads
- Official game licenses including Super Smash Bros. and Mario Kart
- A Gaming Hub open market for continued student access
- PD sessions to support educators implementing the curriculum
Our goal is to inspire the next generation of coders, designers, engineers, and tech leaders — and to honor the legacy of our school's namesake, Colonel Guion S. Bluford, the first African American astronaut in space. Just as he broke barriers, we want our students to reach beyond what they think is possible.
WHAT WE'RE CELEBRATING: ATTENDANCE INCENTIVES
Our PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) program rewards students for showing up, working hard, and doing the right thing. This year, we're raising the stakes.
Students who achieve 95% attendance in the first half of the school year will earn their spots on mid-year reward trips, including:
- A bowling trip
- A skating outing
- A picnic celebration
These experiences are proof to every student that their effort is seen, valued, and rewarded!
