School of Theology and Religious Studies

The School of Theology and Religious Studies' mission of pontifical and ecclesiastical education comes directly from the heart of the Church as guided by the Vatican: to teach and to offer academic degrees to the clergy and lay leaders of tomorrow by the authority of the pope and the bishops. We don’t just teach about the Church; we teach for it.

The Catholic University of America has long played a leadership role in larger conversations within the Catholic Church about matters of intense social and theological importance; between the Catholic Church and other Christian communities in the United States and beyond; and between the Catholic Church and American society. The school exerts this leadership first and foremost through the theological education it provides – preparing students who go on to lead in civil and ecclesial spheres worldwide – and by the research, publications, and public contributions of its faculty.
