About TechTeach Across Rural Texas
TechTeach Across Rural Texas is an educator preparation program in the Texas Tech College of Education designed to meet the unique needs of rural schools. TechTeach Across Rural Texas is a fast-track teacher education program. It is often referred to as a 2+1 program because students earn their bachelor’s degree and teaching certification in just one year (the “+1” year) following a two-year associate degree.
The program is fast but rigorous. Those who enroll spend a full year student teaching on a rural campus under the guidance of a mentor teacher. They complete their college coursework online, and a Texas Tech faculty member is based in the school to provide support and guidance.
The online nature of the program allows Texas Tech to target aspiring teachers who live in rural communities and prepare them within their community, specifically for the schools there. Studies have shown that students who have ties to rural areas are most likely to stick around in rural schools and cultivate long, successful careers.
Why Give?
Your generosity will support promising students who are committed to teaching in rural communities, where high-quality teachers are in great demand.
Donations will provide scholarships student teachers can use to pay for supplies and materials to aid in classroom instruction – including books, worksheets, glue sticks, scissors, pens and markers.
School supplies are especially helpful, because TechTeach students are not your everyday student teachers. TechTeach teacher candidates co-teach alongside a mentor teacher for a full day of instruction, four days a week. They essentially work as full-time teachers, managing classrooms, planning lessons and maintaining relationships with students.
Your gift will not only help a Texas Tech student teacher, but will also make a difference in the lives of the kids in rural communities across Texas.
