Vietnam Archive Oral History Transcription Services
For more than 30 years, the Sam Johnson Vietnam Archive has been collecting oral stories from those who participated in and were affected by both sides of the war in Vietnam including soldiers, family members, civilian volunteers and soldiers. These interviews give researchers a firsthand look into the thoughts and experiences of those who lived during the Vietnam War era and allows veterans’ family members to listen to these moving stories in their loved one’s own recorded words.
While the audio of these interviews is priceless, providing a written transcript opens key opportunities for research and access. The transcript allows researchers to search the interview by subjects or keywords, so they can quickly pinpoint exactly the interview they need. The written text also provides ADA access to these interviews for people who are hearing challenged and provides opportunity for historians to conduct new analysis of the interviews.
Transcription used to be a slow and expensive process, but new technology has made it faster and more cost efficient. Your support today will help us purchase the software necessary to transcribe the more than 300 oral history interviews we have in our archives.
Our Virtual Vietnam Archive is the one of the most heavily used resources for the study of the Vietnam War in the world, used by researchers in over 160 different countries and searched over 68 million times since its creation. With your gift, you will be providing access to vital resources for an eager audience of researchers, students, veterans, and others interested in studying these materials and the Vietnam War.
