MILE Program Project Description
The Matador Institute of Leadership Engagement (MILE) is a three-semester professional and leadership development program for selected students in the Davis College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources at Texas Tech University. The MILE Program uses high-impact learning experiences, including regional agriculture tours, policy trips to Washington, D.C. and Austin, professional development and industry networking to develop qualified, trained young leaders equipped with the experiences and knowledge necessary to address issues affecting local, state and national agriculture.
The MILE Program is funded entirely by industry and donor support. From program implementation to student scholarships, fundraising is essential to the sustainability of the MILE Program. Program funding is used for regional agriculture tours in the Rio Grande Valley, Southern Plains, and Panhandle. Tour expenses include hotels, meals, and a charter bus. Each cohort also participates in policy trips to Washington, D.C. and to Austin during the Texas Legislative session. Other expenses include speaker fees during professional development sessions.
Investment in the MILE Program is an investment into the creation of career-ready students who are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to be problem-solvers in the agriculture industry.
