This campaign ended on May 02, 2022, but you can still make a gift to Texas Tech University System by clicking here!

During World Autism Month, we invite you to join the impact by making a gift to the Burkhart Center.

At the Burkhart Center, we believe there is a place in the world for everyone.

We hope you will support that belief by making a gift today!

1 in 44 children are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in the United States, and more than 25,000 West Texans have been diagnosed. Where can these people and their families go for services to help them live their best life? The Burkhart Center for Autism Education and Research at Texas Tech University.

At the Burkhart Center, we are able to diagnose and serve those with ASD from birth to adulthood. We offer family services, a mobile outreach clinic, telehealth services, Connections for Academic Success and Employment (CASE), and The Transition Academy.

We host various community events throughout the year including Family Fun Events, Parents Night Out, Camp Burkhart, Performing Arts Activities, The Burkhart Family Endowed Lecture Series, the Annual Burkhart Walk for Autism, and Annual Special Education Conference in Partnership with Region 17 Education Service Center. Camp Burkhart, a summer day camp for children with autism, provides structured enrichment opportunities while increasing competence in social interaction for children with ASD. The camp is funded by a generous gift every year from a local donor

The CASE program assists students diagnosed with ASD and other developmental disabilities to navigate college and empowers them to reach their academic goals and to find competitive employment after graduation.

The Transition Academy works to fill the need of young adults 18-30 years of age who are diagnosed with ASD and aspire to be competitively employed. This is a non-residential program that emphasizes job and social skills that lead to productive, dignified employment as well as life skills that enrich the overall life experience.

Burkhart Center students can be found attending classes at Texas Tech University, attending area K-12 schools, and working in our community. You might see them on the grounds crew at Texas Tech University, serving you lunch at Quiznos at the Burkhart Center, or taking your order for shaved ice on a hot summer day from a food truck. Wherever our students decide to flourish, know that you have played a role in their journey.
