Dr. Edward B. Westermann, Regents and Piper Professor of History Emeritus, maintained an unwavering commitment to teaching, service, and scholarship during his fifteen years at Texas A&M University-San Antonio. A specialist in Holocaust and Genocide Studies, Nazi Germany, World War II, and Military Theory, he had a profound impact on thousands of A&M-San Antonio students.
Outside the classroom, he played pivotal roles in the university’s early administrative development, particularly during the era of downward expansion, and his contributions set us on a successful path of growth and excellence. With dozens of publications and countless research talks around the world, Westermann’s scholarly achievements in his areas of study are without parallel.
This endowed distinguished lecture series honors Professor Westermann’s invaluable contributions to A&M-San Antonio by providing future generations of students and faculty with annual opportunities for intellectual engagement with historians who will visit our campus to share their research and expertise.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, the Edward Westermann Distinguished Lecture in History is now 50% funded!

We’ve raised $5,072 from 30 donors, bringing us just $4,928 away from fully endowing this annual lecture series.
This momentum is a testament to the impact Dr. Westermann has had on our students, our faculty, and the History Program at Texas A&M University–San Antonio. Because of your support, we are well on our way to creating a lasting academic tradition that will bring distinguished scholars to campus each year.
If you’ve already made a gift — thank you for helping us reach this milestone.
If you’re considering giving, now is a great time to join this growing group of supporters and be part of establishing this lecture series for future students.
