Jonn E. Conner Museum

The John E. Conner Museum is a space where students, families, and communities can engage with the history and heritage of the University and South Texas. It serves as a living laboratory supporting TAMUK academic programs, faculty/student research, and community engagement through the development of exhibits, special events, classroom experiences, and educational programming. The Conner Museum provides experiential learning spaces and real-life work experiences for students across the university and local high schools, most notably at our signature event, the Tamalada Festival.

The Tamalada Festival is a family-friendly, educational outdoor festival that celebrates the historic contributions and cultural value of corn through a South Texas favorite – tamales. The festival showcases research or expertise from the university and surrounding communities, through hands-on activities, demonstrations, performances, and crafts. The annual festival has experienced yearly attendance increases from 1,000 in its inaugural year to over 3,000 by 2024.
