Who We Are:
Stony Brook Health Outreach and Medical Education (SB HOME) is a medical-student-run, physician-supervised free clinic affiliated with the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University. Since opening its doors in 2008, SB HOME has been committed to serving uninsured adults in Suffolk County by providing comprehensive primary care at no cost, while fostering a strong culture of service, equity and compassionate care.
The Need:
Despite being part of a region with world-class healthcare institutions, many individuals on Long Island continue to face significant barriers to care due to lack of insurance, financial hardship or limited access to primary care services. These barriers often lead to delayed diagnoses, unmanaged chronic conditions and preventable health complications. SB HOME addresses this gap by offering a trusted, community-based resource where patients can receive consistent, high-quality medical care regardless of their ability to pay.
Our Impact:
Each year, SB HOME provides essential medical services to hundreds of uninsured patients who might otherwise go without care. Under the supervision of experienced attending physicians, medical students deliver patient-centered care that includes comprehensive evaluations, chronic disease management, preventive screenings and care coordination. Beyond clinical services, SB HOME prioritizes patient education and continuity of care, empowering individuals to better understand and manage their health while navigating the healthcare system. In addition, SB HOME serves as a hands-on educational opportunity for medical students committed to community service and understanding social determinants of health. Through SB HOME, students engage in meaningful service-learning opportunities to deliver care that truly meets patients’ needs.
How Your Support Will Be Used:
Contributions to SB HOME directly support the ongoing operation and sustainability of the clinic. Donor funding helps cover essential clinical supplies, diagnostic tools, patient education materials and operational costs that allow SB HOME to continue providing care at no cost to patients. Philanthropic support ensures that the clinic can meet growing community needs while maintaining the quality and continuity of care patients rely on.
Why Your Support Matters:
Your generosity makes it possible for SB HOME to remain a lifeline for uninsured individuals in our community. By supporting this student-led, physician-guided clinic, you are investing in equitable access to healthcare today and helping sustain a model of care that prioritizes dignity, compassion and community impact for years to come.
